Red Dirt Relief Fund Stage at G Fest to feature Science Project, Levi Parham, Kaitlin Butts and more
MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Red Dirt Relief Fund (RDRF) is proud to announce its participation in the 2017 edition of Muskogee’s G Fest. One of the festival’s four stages has been named The Red Dirt Relief Fund Stage and will feature a number of Oklahoma red dirt artists.
Over a span of three days (June 15 – 17), ticket holders will have a plethora of music genres in which to devour. From the southern rock sounds of Blackberry Smoke to the classic creations of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to the EDM-fueled dance party led by Candyland, G Fest will run the musical gamut.
The Red Dirt Relief Fund Stage’s will feature an all Okie line up, sans California natives Lauren Barth and Alice Wallace. Although, Barth has relocated to Tulsa and Wallace’s “Born Country” flavor could easily get her mistaken for an Okie from Muskogee. Each night will be capped by the Wednesday Night Science Project. The all-star line –up will begin at 11 p.m. and conclude at 12:30 a.m. Founded by Oklahoma Music Hall of Famer Tom Skinner and carried on by Don Morris, The Science Project has been a weekly “can’t miss” performance at Tulsa’s music hub, The Colony.
Headlining performances on the RDRF Stage will be delivered by Kaitlin Butts, Levi Parham and The Dirtboxwailers, while hours upon hours of great music will be handled by a supporting cast featuring Seth Lee Jones, Jesse Aycock & Lauren Barth, Kim Reynolds, Grazzhopper, The Washitas, Alice Wallace, Pete Marriot Band, DocFell & Co., Deerpaw, And Then There Were Two, Andy Adams, and N8 Jones & Moose Brown.
Kaitlin Butts’ always dynamic live show will fill the Thursday night bill. Butts’ 2014 debut album Same Hell, Different Devil received universal praise from critics and fans of the red dirt/country scene. Since then, things have escalated; with the venues getting bigger, the cheers getting louder, the awards and accolades continuing to come in - Butts seems poised to take her place among the red dirt elite.
Friday night headliner Levi Parham’s 2016 masterpiece, These American Blues, garnered him international attention; this led to an extensive (and successful) European tour. Parham’s show is the perfect blend of rock n’ roll and blues, executed with energy, conviction and intensity.
Saturday headliners The Dirtboxwailers are a tour de force live act; led by Oklahoma songwriter Jimmy Ray Taylor, The Dirtboxwailers have toured regionally for years and are finishing up their latest studio project at Natura Studios, owned and operated by the Grammy Award winning David Teegarden, Sr. The Dirtboxwailers have shared the stage with Uncle Lucius and Jason Boland & The Stragglers to name a few.
Taylor and Jeremy Scott will serve as RDRF Stage emcees. Scott co-hosts “Red Dirt Music Radio”, a weekly syndicated radio show playing on several terrestrial stations in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. “Red Dirt Music Radio” is also a contributing show on the Tulsa-based internet radio station Radio IDL. Scott currently serves as drummer for Tahlequah-based band Flabbergaster and has been a part of several studio albums including his solo album D para Diablo set for release later this year. In addition to his work with The Dirtboxwailers, Jimmy Ray Taylor serves alongside Scott as co-host of “Red Dirt Music Radio”. Taylor’s involvement in the Oklahoma music scene dates back to the 1980s.
Stage managing duties have been put in the capable hands of Joe Mack. Mack, who managed the campground-based stage at the inaugural G Fest, splits his time between media management for monthly entertainment ‘zine The Current Buzz and on-stage with the likes of Elephant Revival, Carter Sampson, Thomas Trapp and countless others across the country.
